The Local Area

The Cairngorms National Park is one of the most beautiful and adventure-filled areas in Scotland, with Aviemore and Boat of Garten offering something for everyone all year round. Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure, wildlife, relaxation or great food and drink, guests are truly spoiled for choice.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Cairngorm Mountain and Glenshee ski resorts are within easy reach, offering skiing and snowboarding throughout the Winter months, while Summer brings mountain biking, hill walking and breathtaking scenery. The area is also home to fantastic golf courses, endless walking and cycling trails, and easy access to the famous Speyside Way.

One of the highlights of the area is the abundance of stunning freshwater lochs perfect for wild swimming and paddleboarding. Several local lochs now even offer wood-fired sauna experiences, making wild dip and sauna sessions a must-try during your stay. Our personal favourite is Loch Alvie, just a 15-minute stroll from Stag’s Hide and The Roost, where you can enjoy peaceful woodland walks, beautiful views and a refreshing swim.

The Cairngorms is also famous for its whisky heritage, with an incredible selection of Speyside whisky distilleries nearby offering tours and tastings. Gin lovers can also visit the wonderful Kinrara Distillery, conveniently located at the road end of Stag’s Hide and The Roost.

Nature lovers will be equally at home here, with the Cairngorms National Park home to some of the UK’s rarest wildlife species and countless scenic walking routes through forests, mountains and lochside trails.
